Friends of Bassetlaw Museum – return of museum tours

The Friends of Bassetlaw Museum (FoBM) extend their best wishes for 2025 to all members and the wider community served by the Museum. FoBM is delighted to announce the return of Museum Tours, marking another step forward in the group’s recovery following the pandemic.

The tours will once again be led by Derek Taylor. Derek began working at the Museum in 2005 after being redeployed from the Regal in Worksop. He played a key role in the refurbishment of the Museum, supported by a Lottery Grant, and held various part-time roles until his retirement in 2013. Since then, Derek has maintained a close association with the Museum as a casual staff member, volunteer, and active member of the Friends since 2014.

The tour will focus primarily on the history of the Museum building, from its construction in 1780 to the present day, including the stories of the families who owned it. While artefacts will be mentioned, they will only be referenced in relation to the building itself.

Each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will include access to parts of the house not typically open to the public. Tours require a minimum of six participants and can accommodate up to twelve. While the tours are free, a suggested donation of £5.00 per person to the Friends is encouraged.

The tours are suitable for individuals or local groups and will initially take place on the afternoon of the first Friday of each month. Dedicated tours can also be arranged for local groups. The first tour is scheduled for 2.00pm on Friday 7th February 2025.
