The Kirton in Lindsey Society’s season of talks continues on Tuesday 22nd October when the audience will be taken on a trip back in time with ‘A Medieval Pilgrimage’, presented by Tony Perkins, a part-time actor and medievalist.
Pilgrimages were not always possible for everyone, and for those who did embark on one, it was often a once-in-a-lifetime event. What sort of people would go on pilgrimage? What destinations were open to a medieval pilgrim? What prompted people to undertake often hazardous journeys? What methods would they use to reach their holy destination? Go along and find out!
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 26th November and will feature ‘Ancient Uses and Folklore of Fungi’, an illustrated talk given by Vicky Buckberry.
All meetings start at 7.30pm in the Diamond Jubilee Town Hall, High Street, Kirton in Lindsey, DN21 4LZ. The entrance fee is normally £1.00 for members (including refreshments) and £3.00 for non-members, except for special meetings.
For those interested in local history, there will be a ‘Local History Rummage Table’ at Kirton in Lindsey Town Hall on Sunday 6th October from 10.00am to 12.00pm, with free admission. The Society has a collection of duplicate old postcards, photographs, printed local history material, magazines, and more. This event is a chance to take home a piece of Kirton’s history or find that old picture you’ve been searching for – all for a small donation to the Society’s funds.
