Royal British Legion – Retford and District Branch

by | 15 September 2024 | Gainsborough, Local Charity

The Retford and District Branch of the RBL has been supporting the Armed Forces community within the area for over 100 years.

Sadly, they are facing the prospect of closure within the next three years. With membership falling from over 150 to just 75 over the last three years, and the number of members attending meetings dwindling to just a handful, the group is becoming unsustainable.

The group needs your support to continue serving and helping the Armed Forces community in the area. They ask you to consider becoming a member of the Retford and District Branch. For more information or to join, visit www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/things-to-do/membership.

The group also needs volunteers. Everyone is aware of the Poppy Appeal in November, but the group also attends many events throughout the year. The more volunteers the Branch can call upon, the more events they can attend and the assistance they can therefore provide.

It may surprise some to learn that there are over 5,000 veterans in the Bassetlaw area, with approximately 25% of those in the Retford district.

You do not have to be a veteran or a Branch member to volunteer; if you can spare even an hour to help at an event, contact Mrs Ann Hickman on 01777 818993 or ann@ityldu.co.uk.
