Gainsborough u3a has had a busy start to the year and a number of groups have made plans for the near future.
The 10 pin bowlers were out in force for an afternoon visit to the Ashby Bowl early in February and the session was rounded off by an evening meal in Scotter – very much enjoyed by all.
The Kurlers, who have been turning up in large numbers for the weekly Monday session, have planned an internal Sunday competition towards the end of March, followed by lunch at the Golf Club.
The Buccaneers have many projects planned for the coming six months, including a beaver trail, a visit to the Holocaust Museum and a treasure trail around Retford. It is highly probable that all these visits will end in a café somewhere – the groups like to be consistent.
The January speaker, Richard Pullen, was excellent and kept his audience well entertained with his stories about famous people who served in the trenches, especially some of the actors of Dad’s Army. It made members see them in a totally different light.
In March the group has its AGM and would like to invite all members to attend, even those who do not normally attend the Thursday meetings. As the lift in the church is currently out of action, they will probably hold this event downstairs.
Volunteers are needed to help run the organisation. This means committee volunteers (only meeting four times a year) and other volunteers to help with arrangements for the Thursday meetings and, ideally, someone willing to take on a role as publicity chief.
The Committee has taken the decision to rename the group organisers as Group Leaders and so consign the term Convenor to the archives. They hope all members will support this move.
