BFRadio Presents: Gainsborough Community Radio

by | 28 November 2021 | Community Focus, Gainsborough, Local Charity

The Gainsborough Community Radio station was setup six months ago by the town’s much loved charity Bearded Fishermen. It was started as just a place for people to visit their offices in the Mercury House Business Centre and play with their media studio. But it has started to really gain in popularity with listeners and has attracted a varied collection of hosts doing radio shows. And this has encouraged them to push forward with the project and they have lots of exciting plans for development.
The studio is based at the offices and call centre of Bearded Fishermen charity for mental health support and suicide prevention in Gainsborough. They run 24 / 7 with hosts having various shows during the day and night, from easy listening shows through to full heavy rock shows, theatre shows and also the latest in chart hits and top 40 shows. They even have a gardening show.

Now a full community radio station for Gainsborough, like your Gainsborough Life magazine they are working with local businesses and groups to help promote Gainsborough and what the community does. They are also looking to get more volunteer hosts and a news team and media team together to help grow the station.

Their main aim is to support the community and the radio station also helps to promote positive mental health within the community. As well as having shows, they promote birthdays, anniversaries, and events for people.

They want to make this the biggest and best community radio station out there.

Meet the hosts

The station has 19 hosts at present. Here is a little bit about a couple of them:

Debs and Dave: Our House

These two great people host shows presently do four shows a week from 8.00pm until 10.00pm. They are a couple from Hemswell and work well together to create banter which makes entertaining and easy to listen to shows, which are also full of great music, humour, and quizzes. Many more shows are planned from Debs and Dave, including Christmas specials.

Neil: Midweek Mosh

Neil is the station manager and, with his family, he is the proprietor of Eternal Goth in Gainsborough. A HM Forces Veteran and a rock god, he really knows his music and the band information he has is second only to Wikipedia. Neil’s shows always involve a lot of music from the rock metal genre.
Neil works extremely hard to make the community radio known and ensure it is accessible to everyone across the board. He is very approachable and helpful to the new hosts and will make everyone welcome.

Who hasn’t dreamed of being on the radio at some point in their life? If you would like to get involved and gain some radio experience, the station is on the look out for new hosts of all ages and abilities and would love to hear from you. Email them at radio@beardedfishermen.uk.
