Lea Women’s Institute held, in August, its first face-to-face indoor meeting in the Village Hall in Lea, and enjoyed an hour with Paul Stafford who gave an informative talk about the Caucasus.

At September’s meeting, the WI was joined by Helen Todd from the Body Shop who told of the support the organisation gives to charities around the world, led by its founder Anita Roddick. Helen also brought a range of body-care products, which were demonstrated on willing volunteers.

October’s meeting saw the WI joined by Joanne Hunter, who spoke about Lip Reading. There was also a food bank collection. October also saw the Lea WI host a Macmillan Coffee Morning. The coffee morning was dedicated to Mrs Marjorie West, a dear member who died recently.

Lea WI will meet on Thursday 4th November in the Village Hall at 7.30pm, when the speaker, Jane Fray will enlighten members on the craft of Willow Weaving. There will be a chance to try this for themselves. Guests are very welcome to attend with no charge.
