Russell Gardner ran the Lincoln 10K on 7th April for the newly-formed charity Riverside Indoor Bowls, who are raising funds to bring indoor bowls back to Gainsborough and district. Russell has done tremendously well and has raised more than £700 to date for the charity. He says it was worth running for and wishes them luck with their endeavors in achieving their aims.Russell had a JustGiving site and also many people gave donations personally. The trustees are very grateful to past bowling members contacting them to show their commitment and loyalty. At the moment they are in partnership with various organisations to get the right venue for present needs and long-term prospects. Comparing building costs, venues and land is extremely time consuming — they need to get it right. The demand proves there is an interest in keeping indoor bowls socially and competitively, especially for the over 65s.
Riverside Indoor Bowls have been very fortunate in receiving donations and raffle prizes for their events from many of the shops and businesses in Gainsborough. Bowlers have contributed enthusiastically with gifts for table top sales. Thelma and Darron Childs have been especially helpful organising their slide show of old Gainsborough.
They are now a recognised legal organisation. Fortunately, they can now make applications for grants from a wide range of bodies. Big money. They are very optimistic for the future. Please join their membership if you think indoor bowling would appeal to you and you feel you have something to offer.
