Back after two years’ enforced absence, Wellow Maypole Day returns this year as part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations weekend for Queen Elizabeth II.
Taking place on Saturday 4th June starting at 12.00pm at Maypole Green in Wellow, as ever there will be lots of traditional free family fun and many stalls and attractions.
The highlight of the afternoon is of course the Crowning of the May Queen, who has been patiently waiting for three years for her big day! The Crowning is preceded by the children’s procession from St Swithin’s Church and followed by the traditional dances performed by the children around Wellow’s magnificent 17m high maypole.
There will also be live music, circus skills, Morris dancers, Punch and Judy, children’s swingboats and much else besides, including plenty of food and refreshments.
The Maypole Committee is very proud that Maypole Day continues to be free to park and to attend, but visitors are encouraged to buy a souvenir programme and take part in the grand prize raffle and tombola, as these help to raise funds for future maypole celebrations.
The Committee is pleased that the village’s Maypole Day is happening once more, and they look forward to welcoming you to a wonderful day out at Wellow!
