A warm welcome awaits

The Dukeries Singers are delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new Choir Handbook. Created for both new and existing members, it answers frequently asked questions, explains how the choir operates and, above all, offers a warm welcome to anyone considering joining.

The handbook includes the history of The Dukeries Singers, information about rehearsals and performances, guidance on voice parts, explanations of common musical terms and practical advice to help new members settle in quickly. It also reflects the values that have helped the choir flourish since 1978 – friendship, inclusivity, encouragement and a shared love of music.

One of the questions the choir is asked most often is whether prospective members need to be able to read music. The answer is no. Many current members joined with little or no musical experience. There are no auditions, no tests and no pressure. The choir believes everyone can sing and that confidence develops naturally in a supportive environment.

The Dukeries Singers are much more than a choir. Members enjoy making music together, forming lasting friendships and performing for local audiences. The choir regularly appears at concerts, community events, charity fundraisers, schools, churches and seasonal celebrations, taking great pride in sharing the enjoyment of singing across the local area.

Anyone who has ever considered joining a choir is invited to come along and experience a rehearsal. Sessions are held every Wednesday evening at the Methodist Church, Forest Road, New Ollerton, and visitors are welcome to attend a few rehearsals before deciding whether membership is right for them.

The choir is also happy to send a free copy of the new Choir Handbook to anyone interested in learning more. It offers a flavour of the friendly atmosphere that new members experience from their very first rehearsal and demonstrates the choir’s commitment to making everyone feel part of the family.
