The Major Oak Pop Choir

Edwinstowe’s Major Oak Pop Choir have, like many other choirs, been meeting and rehearsing via Zoom for the duration of the pandemic. Amongst other things, this has seriously limited their ability to raise money for local good causes, which has always been the aim of their popular concerts which usually take place in and around Nottinghamshire.
However, recently they joined forces with ‘Our Dementia Choir’, Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and Dementia Friendly Mid Notts to record a virtual concert for Dementia Action Week 2021.
Carol Hallam, who is a member of the Major Oak Pop Choir and an Edwinstowe resident herself, helped to co-ordinate this collaboration, which brought together the two choirs to raise awareness of dementia and to raise funds to support much needed activities and therapy for people living with dementia and their carers. Funds raised through the collaboration will be divided 50:50 between Dementia Friendly Mid Notts (covering Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood) and Our Dementia Choir.
Bafta-winning actor Vicky McClure helped to set up Our Dementia Choir through the BBC series that recorded a deeply personal journey to discover the true extent of music’s power in the fight against dementia.
You can watch the video by visiting the Major Oak Pop Choir website, www.majoroakmusic.co.uk, or by visiting their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/majoroakmusicchoir. If you are able, they hope you can help them achieve their target of £1,000 for this worthy cause, and they would be extremely grateful to receive your donations, no matter how small.
