The Dukeries Singers

Dukeries Singers had a busy year in 2023. In addition to supporting various charities during the year, the choir enjoyed a busy programme towards Christmas.

In late November the Dukeries Singers performed in support of Christmas lights markets at both Edwinstowe Village and later at Ollerton Christmas market, entertaining the shoppers with a great selection of Christmas carols.

On 9th December at Jubilee Hall in Old Ollerton village the Dukeries Singers led the ‘Feeling Good’ Christmas concert, with Musical Director Vicki Melling singing Mary’s Boy Child and Penny Woolley singing Colours of Christmas.

Dukeries Singers were very ably supported by the ever-popular GentleMen male voices and the delightfully melodious Edwinstowe Hand Bell Ringers, while Janet Otter tickled the ebonies and ivories with confident skill.

Philip Robinson uniquely performed in both choirs as well ringing with the Edwinstowe Hand Bells.

Having enjoyed a well-deserved break for family festivities, Dukeries Singers have now reconvened for their weekly get-together every Wednesday at 7.00pm at the Methodist Hall on Forest Road in New Ollerton.

Chairman John Banbury is keen to welcome new and additional singers and musicians to the male and female inclusive choir. He is looking to broaden the range of musical activities Dukeries Singers provide and also add more diverse performance opportunities throughout the year.

“I want to encourage ‘secret-shower-singers’ to get involved in 2024,” suggests John. “Currently we have two activity peaks in the summer and at Christmas, whereas I would like to see a better spread of activities (both performance and social) across all four seasons.”

Membership costs just £2.00 per week and includes training and advice for those that wish it. Non-members that want to see and hear the Singers practising are welcome to go along as a fly-on-the-wall at one or two of their regular practise sessions to discover it all appeals to them.

Light refreshments are usually available. Contact John Banbury with any queries by phone or text on 07759 086132.
