“The atmosphere was just lovely.”
This was just one of the comments following the Dukeries Singers’ Summer Concert at The Jubilee Hall which, supported by The Forest Singers from Mansfield, which was heralded as a great success. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the variety of performance and mix of listening experiences.
Led by the brilliant Vicki Melling, Musical Director, Janet Otter and Fay Shackleton on piano, the group performed a variety of pieces from the Beatles number When I’m Sixty-Four to Bring Him Home from Les Misérables and many more pieces.
The performance was complemented by the amazing duo Maureen Lockwood and Sandra Carter, who brought the house down with Fast Zu Keck and Romanza on piano and clarinet.
The Edwinstowe Hand Bell Ringers provided novelty, playing a range of songs including a piece adapted specially for hand bells by John Ottaway in homage to his love of football – I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles.
A sensational solo by Maureen Ross Nella Fantasia and Che Faro Senza Euridice performed by Vicki Melling herself were both outstanding.
The Jubilee Ukuleles provided loads of fun accompanying the community singing with a selection of 50s, 60s and 70s tunes. A wonderful event!
