The Dukeries Community Band – is it for you?

by | 17 August 2024 | Hobbies, Music, Sherwood

Do you have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument at home that you are learning to play or haven’t played for some time? Would you like to improve your playing? Do you think you would enjoy playing with a band in a friendly, supportive environment?

If the answers to the above are “yes” then The Dukeries Community Band could be ideal for you.

They meet each Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. It is open to all woodwind, brass and percussion players of any age as long as you are able to read music, attend rehearsals and are keen to play in their concerts (even if not initially). They have an ever-increasing repertoire from pop to classical music and lots in between.

Younger musicians may want to join the band for the first hour of each rehearsal if it is felt that two hours is too long.

The Band’s concerts support the local community and charities and they are always happy to hear from organisations who would like us to play for them.

Members are currently enjoying their summer break from rehearsals, then the first rehearsal of the new term will be on Tuesday 3rd September.
