Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who supported the Dukeries Community Band at their charity concert on Sunday 25th July. An amazing £806 was raised for the local charity Paul’s Pit Stop.
September sees the band return from its summer break and resume rehearsals on Tuesday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at The Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton. This is a great time to join, especially as the band will be starting work on some new pieces.
The Dukeries Community Band is a community wind band comprising brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. New players are welcome to attend any of the rehearsals to join in straight away or simply to listen (there are no auditions). The band is always happy to welcome new players of any age, with the current age range spanning over 70 years.
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while or have only recently started learning. All that is required is the ability to read music, a desire to improve, regular attendance at rehearsals, and a willingness to play in concerts. Playing in the band is an excellent way to improve musical ability in a friendly, supportive environment.
The band’s concerts support the local community and charities. The band is always happy to hear from organisations that would like a performance. For more information, contact the band at dukeriescommband@btinternet.com or visit www.dukeriescommunityband.co.uk. The band looks forward to meeting new members at its concerts – or at the rehearsals!
