The Dukeries Community Band

by | 12 June 2025 | Hobbies, Music, Sherwood

The Dukeries Community Band is a wind band made up of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. New players are always welcome to attend any of their rehearsals – whether to join in immediately or simply to listen. They are keen to welcome musicians of all ages and experience levels, and no auditions are required.

Whether someone has recently begun learning or is returning to their instrument after a break, they are encouraged to go along. All that is asked is the ability to read music, a desire to improve, a commitment to attend rehearsals, and a willingness to perform in concerts.
The band is especially looking for more brass players – trumpet / cornet, euphonium / baritone, French horn, trombone and tuba / bass players. While the saxophone section has admirably covered brass parts, the group would love to add more authentic brass sound. Woodwind players interested in joining are also warmly encouraged to get in touch via dukeriescommband@btinternet.com.

Concerts support the local community and various charities. The band recently performed its first concert of the year in Ollerton, celebrating St George’s Day on a beautiful sunny afternoon. They are now rehearsing new pieces to expand their already extensive repertoire – including a particularly impressive Meat Loaf medley. It’s a great time to get involved. Their programme covers a wide range of music, from classical to pop and everything in between, offering something for everyone.

Rehearsals take place every Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
