September sees Dukeries Community Band return from their summer break to rehearsing on a Tuesday evening from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at The Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton. This is a great time to join, especially as they will be starting work on some new pieces.
This community wind band comprises brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. New players are welcome to any rehearsal to join in straight away, or just to listen (they don’t audition). The Band is always happy to have new players, of any age – the current age range spans over 70 years!
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while or have started to learn fairly recently. All they ask is that you can read music, want to improve, can attend rehearsals and want to play in concerts. Playing in a band is a really good way to improve playing ability in a friendly, supportive environment.
They would especially welcome more brass players ie trumpet / cornet, euphonium / baritone, French horn, trombone and tuba / bass players.
However, if you are a woodwind or timpani player and are interested in joining, they would also love to hear from you at dukeriescommband@btinternet.com.
Dukeries Community Band concerts support the local community and charities. They are always happy to hear from organisations who would like the Band to play for them.
