Does the thought of playing in a band excite or terrify you? It doesn’t matter which answer you give to this question; The Dukeries Community Band could be the place for you to grow your musical skills and enjoy yourself at the same time.
This is a community concert band comprising brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. New players are welcome to come down to rehearsals to join in straight away or just to listen (the Band doesn’t audition). They are always happy to have new players of any age; the current age range is 11 to over 80 so please don’t think you are too young or old to join in!
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while, or have started to learn fairly recently. The Band only requires that you can read music, want to improve, can attend rehearsals and are able to play in concerts.
They rehearse each Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Their ever-increasing repertoire features pop to classical with lots in between, so there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.
The Band is currently working on music for a proms concert. This will include popular pieces along with music traditionally associated with proms concerts. There will certainly be something to get you singing and tapping along.
Dukeries Community Band concerts support the local community and charities. They are always happy to hear from organisations who would like to be involved.
