WETU II Week

It’s back! As well as offering the ever-popular all-action medieval jousting displays, we’re set to be invaded by Vikings too! There will be historical re-enactments from across the Middle Ages, and this year, Sherwood will be the venue for the county’s Nottinghamshire Day celebrations on 27th August. There will be arena shows, performance, music, comedy, stalls, games and activities, including archery (of course) and each weekend has a different theme.

Outlaw Day

An Outlaw family experience with The Sherwood Outlaws and Notts Outdoors starts with an adventure through the beautiful Sherwood Forest where you will meet some of the famous characters from the stories of old. Visit the Major Oak, look at some of the weapons from Medieval times, and learn about crime and punishment and what life was really like in the Forest! After lunch, test your den building skills and see if you can build a den to survive in the forest. You day will end with you making a wooden medallion to remind you of your Outlaw adventure.

Find out with experimental archaeologist James Dilley who will guide you through the process of making your flint tools to take home at the end. The oldest flint tools found in Britain date to around 1 million years ago, the latest around 3000 years ago so you will have the chance to try your hand at a process used for 99.7% of human presence in Britain!
