Sherwood Forest Rotary have continued to meet at various venues over the last month. At present they meet at Ollerton House on the first Wednesday of each month and try to arrange a guest speaker on these occasions. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone to go along and find out what Rotary is about. Contact them for further information.
In November they were delighted to receive a talk from John Bradford from the Furniture Project. The project was first put forward as an idea in 1991 and helps those in need county wide. They are also supporting the Syrian and Afghan Vulnerable Persons Programme. Since 1992 nearly 34,000 local families and individuals have been successfully helped by the project. It can also be supported by GiftAid. So, if you have any furniture that you no longer want, give them a ring on 01623 836622.
Last year the Rotary Club of Sherwood Forest organised a ‘Reverse’ Food Advent Calendar for the CAR food bank project. This year they are making a donation to them and are asking our community to support them once more. This time of year can prove to be difficult for some families.
On Friday 10th December they will be supporting the Ollerton Village Residents Association (OVRA) Carol Concert, which will take place at 7.00pm in the War Memorial Gardens opposite the Hop Pole Hotel.
The Club will be back at Tesco this Christmas collecting for community projects. See them on Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th December. If you would like to help them on those dates please contact them on the club email address.
The 2021 Club Bike Ride in aid of Prostate Cancer UK has now completed its collection and has reached the fantastic sum of £5,000. Congratulations and thanks to all who took part and supported them.
It has recently been announced that their Rotary Wood, which can be found at the Sherwood Heath site, has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag award. Rotary Wood is made up of native trees planted in 1998 and 1999 on the restored spoil tip of Thoresby Colliery to celebrate the Millennium. Harworth Estates are planning to extend the Rotary Wood to Sherwood Forest over the Thoresby pit site.
