Sherwood Forest Brass recently performed at the National Coal Mining Museum, Caphouse Colliery, Wakefield. As the band’s heritage is from the mining communities, it was an interesting day and members enjoyed the visit underground to learn about the mining industry. The group then played three programmes through the afternoon in the colliery courtyard.
The band’s Robin Hood Achievement Award was presented in July to one of Sherwood Forest Brass’ most recent additions: John Richardson. John is not new to music in Nottinghamshire, as he has spent his whole career teaching music in the county. Having had about 30 years in retirement from playing in brass bands, John has recently decided to have a bit of fun again and got the Soprano back out.
The last presentation of the award was to Lynne Ashley, who Sherwood Forest Brass is proud to say is one of their own as she started to play the cornet when her daughter went along to the band to learn.
If you play an instrument – or have played in the past – go along and join in on a Monday evening.
Sherwood Forest Brass has instruments available for every age and ability. Instrument hire is free. If you don’t read music the group can teach you. Tuition is free from a qualified musician.
The band currently rehearses Mondays at 7.00pm to 9.00pm in Clipstone Social Club, Clipstone NG21 9AL.
