September open gardens

September is often the loveliest of months, with soft diffused light and leaves beginning to show their autumnal colours. The garden visiting season is drawing to a close, but we finish the year with two magnificent gardens to visit:

Sunday 10th September, 1.00pm to 5.00pm

Oak Barn Exotic Garden, Church Street, East Markham NG22 0SA

On entering the oak lich-style gate, you will be met with an unexpected dense canopy of greenery and tropical foliage. Gravel paths wind under towering palms and bananas, which are underplanted with cannas and gingers. On the lowest levels, houseplants are bedded out from the large greenhouse to join the summer displays. They surround the Jungle Hut raised walkway. This garden has featured in many national publications, including RHS Magazine ‘The Garden’ and Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail. Refreshments.

Sunday 24th September, 2.00pm to 5.00pm

Norwell Nurseries, Woodhouse Road, Norwell NG23 6JX

Jewel box of over 3,000 different, beautiful and unusual plants sumptuously set out in a one-acre plantsman’s garden including shady garden with orchids, woodland gems, cottage garden borders, alpine and scree borders. Pond with opulently planted margins. Extensive herbaceous borders and effervescent colour themed beds. Sand beds showcase Mediterranean, North American and alpine plants. Nationally renowned nursery open with over 1,500 different rare plants for sale. UK’s largest collection of hardy chrysanthemums for sale and National Collection of Hardy Chrysanthemums. New borders including the National Collection of Astrantias.
