The Rotary Club of Sherwood Forest has been impressed by the way in which the community has been supporting Ukrainian refugees over the last few weeks and many club members have donated to the appeal through local collection points.
Sherwood Forest Rotary Club puts aside money each year to support emergencies wherever they arise. The Emergency Fund grows over time and the Club has supported disasters in the UK as well as those in other countries.
The Club has donated a large amount of money to the Disaster Emergencies Committee and Rotary Foundation, which will distribute much-needed resources to those in need. It will also continue to support local groups as needs occur.
The Club is fundraising for Alzheimer’s Research UK through its Charity Golf Day at Rufford Golf Club on Friday 20th May sponsored, once again, by Jones & Co Solicitors. It is a team event but if you would like to join in as an individual, they will try to find a team for you. For any further information please contact malcolm.bevan@btinternet.com.
There are also opportunities for local businesses to sponsor a hole and / or donate a prize or two to the raffle table.
The Rotary Club meets three times each month on Wednesday evenings. The first Wednesday of the month is held at the Ollerton House and anyone who would like to find out more about Rotary is welcome to join. Please email iminterestedinrotary@outlook.com.
At the March meeting, members received a short talk from Carol Hallam of Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre. Carol gave an interesting insight to her work at the centre and a potted history of her career and how it led to her current position. The evening was enjoyed by all members present.
The Club had assisted Carol in putting out and collecting the hearts which decorated Edwinstowe during February. This seemed to be a successful event with many local families and schools taking part.
