At the AGM in April, former Retford and District Photographic Society Presidents Jenny Smith and Alan Burkwood agreed to share the roles of President and Vice President next season while retiring President, Alan Dibbo, will share the role of Programme Secretary with Jane Brownley.
The final competitions of the season were held the following week. Each of these was for one of the club’s Memorial trophies. The big difference from the other competitions through the year is that members decide the winners of these trophies by voting.
Lee Dalgleish won the Dennis Rich Memorial Trophy for prints with Shield Bug Rising and the Rosemary Wright Memorial Trophy for digitally projected images was a tie between Andy Stephenson with In Cordoba and Lee Dalgleish with Lacking in Clarity. The Brian Mosley Memorial Trophy for composite images was won by Lee Dalgleish with Twilight Stroll, to complete a very successful evening for Lee!
There was a good variety of subject matter in the different classes with portraits, landscapes, birds, animals and insects as well as architectural and sculptural.
At the annual presentation evening soon afterwards, Alan Burkwood congratulated everyone who had entered the competitions throughout the current season and urged everyone to have a go next season. He expressed his belief that the club is working at a good standard, which is being achieved by those who don’t compete as well as those who do.
Alan shared the presentation of the prizes with Competition Secretary, Lee Dalgleish. In the single image leagues, Lee emerged as the winner of the classes for colour prints and monochrome prints while Joyce Bell took the digitally projected image class.
Later in the season come the portfolio competitions when members submit a selection of images. The Colour Portfolio winner was Simon Carr and the Monochrome Portfolio winner was Alan Burkwood, who also won the Digitally Projected Image Portfolio.
The points in these classes are totalled to calculate the Photographer of the Year. This year the current holder of the title, Andy Stephenson, shared it with Alan Burkwood. The winner receives a beautiful wooden trophy, a gift from Retford Rotary Club. Alan will have it for the first six months, after which he will return it to Andy.
After this it only remained for the presentation of the President’s Award of a certificate to the person the President considers has contributed most to the club in the year. Alan Burkwood read out Alan Dibbo’s message about his choice. The winner was Kerry Muscott, who is always willing to come early to help set up or to help with refreshments as well as standing in as Treasurer at the door when needed.
