To coincide with World Book Day, the Junior Town Councillors at Parkgate Academy, New Ollerton, recently held a sale of pre-loved books.
Alongside this, they organised a chocolate-themed raffle, offering over forty Easter eggs as tempting prizes. Together, the two events raised an impressive total of £1,018.54.
As Parkgate Academy has recently been awarded accreditation as an Asthma Friendly School, the Junior Town Councillors voted to donate the proceeds from their fundraising to the Children’s Respiratory Ward at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre. The funds will be used to purchase vital equipment for the ward, where many children are hospitalised with acute asthma.
During an assembly, the Junior Town Councillors presented a giant cheque to Fern Sewell, Paediatric Respiratory Nurse Specialist (QMC), and Michaelle Dorman, Relationship Events Manager (QMC). Afterwards, Michelle said: “Thank you to everyone at Parkgate Academy for raising such a huge amount of money, which will help Nottingham Hospitals Charity ensure that patient care in the Nottingham Hospitals is the best it can be. Thank you so much.”
In recognition of their energetic fundraising, the Junior Town Councillors also received a VIP tour of the Queen’s Medical Centre. The visit included lunch in the rooftop garden and a guided tour of the Children’s Departments.
