Ollerton Village will host the annual St George’s Day celebrations on Sunday 28th April, from 11.00am to 4.00pm, promising an exciting mix of music and myths, children’s activities and family fun. Last year’s event saw thousands of people enjoy a family day out in the spring sunshine, and this year is gearing up to be even better. Storyteller Alistair Littlewood will lead the colourful parade as England’s patron saint, with the mythical dragon following ready for battle. Alistair was a huge hit at last year’s event, whipping up imaginations with stories of St George’s bravery in the battle of good against evil, before slaying the ferocious beast for the entertainment of the baying crowd.
Ollerton and Boughton’s schools are all taking part in the event in a variety of ways this year; whether it’s bringing the legend of St George alive with their creative skills or performing in the final of Ollerton’s Got Talent.
And there’s no reason to leave your four-legged friends at home — the Fun Dog Show, one of last year’s highlights, will be back with even more categories. New for 2019 is the dragon and knight-themed doggy fancy dress, giving canine contestants plenty of opportunities to bag a rosette.
This year’s musical treats will include promising 18-year-old local singer Gabrielle Nuttall, as well as a host of local bands and musicians.
There will be the usual traditional crafts and activities to try, delicious local food and drink to sample, and the chance to pick up a bargain on one of the many stalls.
Youngsters can enjoy children’s archery and face painting, St George’s dragon-themed selfie station and lots more, and the River Maun will become a sea of yellow as the Rotary Club’s annual duck race sets sail.
