On Friday 28th June, 18 members of Ollerton Rugby Club set off to complete the 109-mile Cleveland Way in under 36 hours to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. This was a relay event, with groups completing stages throughout the 36-hour challenge.
The group set off from Helmsley at 12.00am Saturday to complete the first stage totalling eight miles to Sutton Bank.
The group walked all day and into the night, skirting the North York Moors through beautiful countryside to Saltburn by the Sea. They then continued throughout the night and into Sunday morning along the coast through Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough.
They completed the challenge at 9.00am on Sunday at the official finish point at Filey Brigg, taking just 33 hours to complete the challenge.
It was a fantastic achievement by all who took part, with ages ranging from 19 to 66. The current total raised stands at £1,780, with more money to come in and a charity golf day at Rufford golf course on 26th July and a darts marathon at the Red Lion Wellow on Saturday 27th July.
