This year’s national Festivals of Heritage Open Days are from Friday 8th to Sunday 17th September. They will be celebrating at both The Museum of the Horse and the Walks of Life Museum in Tuxford.
The Walks of Life Museum will be offering creative tours of the collection. From the wheelwright to the cartwright who created their artefacts to the designers who decorated the carts, look at how the carts inspired creativity. Visitors can explore their creativity in the rural barn.
On Saturday 9th September from 10.00am they are celebrating International Charity Day combined with craft stalls. If you want a stall please contact them or go along and support local causes.
Then on Friday 15th September from 11.00am to 3.00pm there will be a guided tour to see inside the farmhouse. This is a restoration project in conjunction with the Bassetlaw conservation officers and Building Preservation Trust. Space is limited so please book a place in advance.
On Saturday 16th September at 2.00pm enjoy a talk by Keith, one of the Museum’s team. He was present at the Dambusters 80th anniversary event in Germany and will talk about the Dambusters raid and the moving reconciliation activities.

The Museum of the Horse will host an illustrated talk on the excitement and danger, the scandals and tragedies of the ladies of the 18th and early 19th century. Who was bold enough to ride on these highly dangerous side saddles? Find out why they had to wear a modesty strap when riding. These early side saddles were so dangerous they led to the creation of a number of safety devices during the 19th century. Many of these will be on show.
