You are invited to a special event at the National Holocaust Museum in Laxton this July with a familiar face to many.
John-Henry Phillips is an author, archaeologist, presenter and filmmaker. He created and appeared in the PBS documentary No Roses on a Sailor’s Grave, co-hosts The Great British Dig on Channel 4, and is the author of The Search. John-Henry also runs the non-profit Romani Community Archaeology, which leads Britain’s first archaeological excavations of historic Romany Gypsy sites, as featured on BBC Two’s Digging for Britain.
Roma Genocide Remembrance Day will be marked on Saturday 2nd August. In a local commemoration of the day, John-Henry will join museum staff for a moment of silence and reflection to remember those who lost their lives, following a talk entitled ‘The Archaeology of Romany Gypsies’ on Sunday 27th July from 1.00pm to 2.30pm.
This talk covers the history of Romany Gypsies in the UK, the forgotten Romany heritage we can still see all around us, and the fascinating discoveries made as part of a truly unique excavation of an untold corner of history.
