The Walks of Life Museum in Tuxford will mark the commemoration of VJ Day on Friday 15th August. Nets of poppies and tributes will be on display throughout the day. Named roses Peace and Tranquillity will be planted in the memorial garden in remembrance. Visitors are invited to join from 11.00am to 3.00pm for a time of reflection, accompanied by a cup of tea, to honour all those affected by war. Every cart in the museum’s collection tells a story that connects 5to the present. Alongside the stonemason’s cart is the tale of a renowned stonemason who was knighted by Queen Victoria. The museum also showcases the rich railway history of Tuxford, which now hosts the Network Rail Innovation and Development Centre.

Thanks to Jacob, the test track manager, the museum will hold an Open Track Day on Wednesday 20th August from 10.00am to 2.00pm, offering the opportunity to walk along the line and learn more about the UK’s premium rail test facility. Places must be booked in advance by contacting Diane on 01777 787276 (please leave a message) or by emailing dianehunt08@btinternet.com. The Museum of the Horse is currently presenting a small exhibition of recent acquisitions. Curator Sally is preparing for the next online auction, which will take place on Sunday 19th October from 6.00pm. Viewing will be available on Friday 17th from 10.00am to 4.00pm, and Saturday from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

The auction will include paintings, prints, and a collection from the late Jim Meads, longtime Horse and Hound photographer. Among the highlights are a fine original Lionel Edwards oil painting and a large, hand-painted French faience wall platter by Glen, which typically retails for over £1,000 – a potential bargain for collectors. Entries for the auction are invited by emailing curator@museumofthehorse.co.uk or calling 01777 878234
