Both museums in Tuxford are getting ready for events in addition to their regular opening, and are delighted to have been successful in getting grants from the Government’s Rural England Shared Prosperity Fund to improve facilities.
Walks of Life Museum
The Walks of Life Museum is busy with the traditional building skills workshops run by Conservation Officer Jason Mordan, starting with the lime screed floor in the old farmhouse on 7th and 10th May. If you are interested in restoration of old buildings and would like to be part of the workshops, you can find more details on their Facebook page or use the contact details below.
On Saturday 1st June at 2.00pm there will be a talk commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6th June. This event is free and includes refreshments, but please let the Museum know if you would like to attend.
Then on Sunday 2nd June the Museum will be supporting the Tuxford Litter Pick at 10.00am. Museum staff are also working on new displays with Nottingham University students.

Museum of the Horse
The Museum of the Horse is celebrating its 10th anniversary!
Over the years the Museum has gained an international reputation.
People make pilgrimages from many parts of the world to view this comprehensive and fascinating collection. The only people who don’t come in great numbers are the people of Tuxford and surrounding villages!
Perhaps people imagine that a horse museum would be of no relevance to them, but that isn’t true. The horse is part of everyone’s history.
To celebrate the anniversary, there will be a small exhibition of previously unseen new acquisitions including a 19th century mail coach guardsman coat relevant to Tuxford and Sutton on Trent (the coach used to go through both) and a very early Roman Hippo sandal – the first attempt to make a shoe in iron for a horse.
The Exhibition runs from 10th June to the end of August. Parking is available behind the Museum. Entrance is free; donations to support the Museum are welcome.
The Museum of the Horse is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.00pm and Saturday 10.00am to 4.00pm.
