A new mural celebrating parts of Tuxford’s history has been created on the A1 underpass in Tuxford as part of a collaborative community project supported by government funding. The artwork was developed with contributions from students at Tuxford Academy, local charity Tuxford Forget-Me-Notts, the Museum of the Horse and the Walks of Life Museum, working in partnership with Tuxford Town Council. Joan Moorhouse, chairman of Tuxford Town Council, said: “I hope this mural will be enjoyed by many people for years to come, offering a walk through time for visitors, residents and generations of Tuxfordians. “Projects like this help preserve our heritage, celebrate our identity and strengthen pride in our community.” The brightly coloured display was installed by Artworks, which works to challenge perceptions of learning disabilities and autism through creative projects, alongside artist Alastair Flindall.
Councillor Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity, Planning and Place said: “This mural has made what was once a dull underpass much brighter and more welcoming for both local people and visitors coming into the town.
“I’d like thank everyone who helped shape the ideas and everyone who worked to turn them into reality.” The first side of the underpass has now been completed, with work on a second mural planned for August once the artist is available and road safety measures are in place.
The project has been funded through the Town Centre Streetscaping Fund, supported by the UK Government and allocated by Bassetlaw District Council, with the aim of creating a safer, more vibrant and welcoming town centre.
