Leading up to their summer break, the Major Oak Pop Choir enjoyed performing for sell-out audiences, and as always, raising funds for local charities. They we invited as guests of the Anston Male Voice Choir, to perform in a concert at The Crossing, Worksop. Performances included a wonderful rendition of ‘Any Dream Will Do’ from ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ from the joint choirs, meaning there were nearly 100 voices on stage. A total of £1,700 was raised for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
The choir’s own summer concert this year was held in the Civic Centre, Mansfield, to support the Kings Mill Hospital Trust Cancer Services. One of their singers had undergone treatment at Kings Mill, and her husband was so impressed with the care she received that he wanted to give something back, so he decided to get a team together to organise and promote this concert and raised over £4,000 in the process.
There was even a guest appearance from Mansfield Radio’s Tony Delahunty to help the evening along. The concert was hugely enjoyable by performers and audience alike, and the choir were thrilled to have raised such a fantastic amount of money for such a worthy cause. Preparations are now underway for the choir’s Christmas performances. See the Major Oak Pop Choir at:
- The annual Christmas Lights event in Edwinstowe on Thursday 20th November (catch them in Edwinstowe Library around 5.00pm). This is a free event.
- Their exciting Christmas spectacular performance on Sunday 7th December at 7.00pm, at the John Fretwell Centre, Mansfield. Tickets will be available soon – keep an eye out on the choir’s website and Facebook page.
As usual, the choir will be singing a ‘feel-good’ programme of songs from film, musicals and popular song with a Christmas theme to get you in a festive mood. Why not go along and support your local Edwinstowe choir? They guarantee you an uplifting and toe-tapping experience, and you will help them to raise even more money for local charities.
