Home-Start Newark is celebrating after recently securing three years of funding from Children in Need for one of its key services – the supported Family Group.
Home-Start Newark has been serving the local community for 40 years and provides a range of vital support services for families with children under the age of five. Its services cover Newark and the surrounding areas, including Ollerton, Boughton and Bilsthorpe.
This funding will help sustain the vital work of the supported Family Group, a free service held twice weekly in central Newark. It offers play, support, and a healthy breakfast at no cost to local families. The Family Group also organises an annual summer trip for supported families during the school holidays, allowing older siblings to take part. In previous years, outings have included trips to White Post Farm and a butterfly park.
At Christmas, the Family Group hosts a festive party where supported families can come together, enjoy seasonal food, and receive a visit from a surprise guest from the North Pole – complete with a gift for each child.
“It’s not always easy keeping the charity afloat, so I am absolutely delighted to receive this crucial funding from Children in Need,” said Sara Grant, Manager of Home-Start Newark. “This funding allows us to continue to provide one of our vital support services for another three years, which is so important as families continue to face a range of issues in this challenging climate.”
Parents or carers with a child under five who are interested in receiving support at home or attending the Home-Start Newark Family Group are encouraged to contact the charity directly on 01636 705011, text ‘support’ to 07435 939713, email info@homestartnewark.co.uk, or visit them on social media. Those interested in volunteering are also welcome to get in touch for more information.
