Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions Club get involved with so much in our communities. As well as supporting food banks, Scouts and Guides, homelessness, charities like Marie Curie, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, they try and help young groups such as rounders and football teams. In fact, the list is huge.
One of the teams they are supporting this year is Bilsthorpe United’s Under 12s. They are a progressive club with a team of coaches trying to give opportunities to youngsters in our area and they have had a great first season. They finished third in their league and are due to play shortly in a cup final. Whatever the result, it’s been a great start for them.
For the management team, this is just the beginning; they plan to develop other age groups, with a hope they can get a girls team up and running as well. For these plans, they need more coaches and a bigger support network.
The Lions have, and hopefully will continue to, support them. It is expensive – kits, ground rents and grass cutting all costs, so any businesses or individuals who would like to help can contact the club via the Lions. Please join them as they continue their journey.
