Inner Wheel Club of Warsop celebrated their 50th anniversary and raised funds for President Christine Parkin’s charity with a ‘50 and Fabulous’ ball on 19th May. The event was enjoyed by everyone and raised a fantastic £1,400 for the charity pot.
The Hostess restaurant provided wonderful food and service. The music was presented by singers from LPP events and got guests up and dancing with some singing along thrown in.
On 7th June the club held their meeting as usual at The Hostess, where they shared a very nice carvery meal while taking time to chat and catch up with each other. A minute silence was held for a dear member and friend to many who has passed away since the last meeting. Sharon Smith, who is a past president of the Club, will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Sharon’s wish was for her funeral not to have flowers and instead donations were made to the Club’s charity, which will leave a legacy with the help it will give to others.
President Christine then presented cheques to her chosen charities, with an amazing £5,670 going to Prostate Cancer UK, £750 going to Warsop Sporting Trust, which will be used to support ongoing sporting activities for local children. £750 was also presented to the Oaklands complex to support people living within the complex and the final £220 was given to the District Chairman Elaine Hopkins for her charity, Age UK. The outgoing District Chairman is a member of the Warsop club and everyone is proud that she was able to take on the role.
The cheque presentation was followed by the Club’s AGM. What a fantastic end to President Christine’s year. Members look forward to the fun and friendship planned by incoming President Sharlotte. If you would like to join the Club as a guest you are very welcome to join in on the first Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held at The Hostess in Sookholme starting at 7.00pm. A carvery meal and hot drink is enjoyed at a cost of £10.00. More information can be found at www.innerwheel.co.uk or by emailing innerwheelwarsop@gmail.com.
