Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions are always happy to consider helping local causes. This is what they do, and it’s not just financial support – they often get their hands dirty, and in the past have gleaned excess fruit from trees and forwarded them to food banks and other needy recipients, helped decorate premises for other charities and often been asked to provide extra people to support other worthwhile organisations.
A recent donation was to Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum, a fascinating place with a wealth of mining memories and the local volunteers are always delighted to give you a guided tour. They are passionate about it, but like so many other charities and organisations they need money. The Lions helped them to help themselves by contributing towards the purchase of a gazebo so they can hold outdoor events behind the museum. Lion President Adam Murphy and Lion Hazel Whitlam visited and handed over the cheque which was gratefully received.
The Lions also have a number of events coming up so watch out in the local social media. The first is a Fashion Show in Tuesday 24th October. Many details are to be confirmed but there will be lots of designer ladies clothes at knockdown prices, perfect timing for Christmas.
As requested many times in the past, the Club is always looking for fresh members. To find out more call Jon Yarwood on 07581 265531 or email him at jon.c.yarwood@gmail.com. You could go along to a meeting and see what they are up to. They nearly always have fun whilst working hard, enjoy socials every month and are a happy bunch of firm friends.
