Are you interested in tracing your family tree but unsure where to begin?
‘Researching Your Family History: An Introduction’ is a six-week course starting on Saturday 17th January at Worksop Library. The course has proved extremely popular in previous years, often selling out, so early booking is strongly advised. Sessions will take place every Saturday from 10.00am to 12.00pm until 21st February.
Designed for beginners, the course introduces the main types of records available for family history research. Participants will learn how to locate key documents and online sources, as well as how to interpret their findings effectively.
You will explore a range of valuable resources for tracing your ancestors, including indexes, original records and online databases, with a particular focus on records from England and Wales. These include civil registration of births, marriages and deaths, census returns, the 1939 Register and parish records. The course will also touch on additional sources such as newspapers, trade directories, electoral registers and wills or probate records.
Using sample documents and case studies, the sessions will help you develop your research techniques and search strategies, while also offering practical advice on how to organise and record your findings. The full course costs £48.00, though it may be free for those in receipt of certain benefits. Booking and enrolment are essential.
