The ground in January was too hard to work or flooded, but Edwinstowe in Bloom (EiB) members remained busy with future plans and they now have activities and events are planned throughout the year.
EiB want to recruit more people to assist with the social gardening sessions through the year and take advantage of all the free planned training and craft sessions and fund-raising events. If would like to volunteer or become a member send an email to eib@btinternet.com.
The Heart Trail, run by the Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre took place again this year in February and some bird box and bug hotel building sessions have been planned to take place in March / April as well as amateur art workshops with renowned artists. Watch out for the monthly photography competition and the tallest sunflower growing competition.
EiB will have a stall to support the Prostate Cancer Awareness weekend at the Arts and Craft Centre over Easter weekend (7th to 9th April). There will be a lot of donated books for sale, also hopefully some plants and other items made during craft sessions and in addition some donated by volunteers.
Other dates to put in your diary are 7th May at the Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre, when there will be a joint celebration of VE Day and the King’s Coronation with a picnic in the forest. And 3rd June where EiB will be involved by running a Popup Book Festival in Edwinstowe as part of Newark Book Festival. This year’s theme is ‘Our World’ and there will be music, storytelling, performances, and stalls throughout the village.
