Edwinstowe is gearing up for the 2026 RHS UK Finals, representing the East Midlands as one of only three places in the region.
Led by the volunteer group Edwinstowe in Bloom—known locally as the ‘In Bloomers’—the bid reflects four years of work to improve the look, feel and environment of the village.
From colourful planting schemes to cleaner public spaces and community events, the impact of the group’s efforts can now be seen across Edwinstowe.
But organisers say the bid is about far more than appearance. “This is about community pride and bringing people together,” said Carol Hallam, Vice Chair of Edwinstowe in Bloom. “Every small change adds up, and it’s the support from local people that makes the real difference.”
The In Bloomers have been joined by schools, community groups, businesses and residents, many of whom give their time regularly to support planting, maintenance and wider environmental work. A long-time resident also welcomed the changes, saying: “Being an Edwinstowe resident for my whole 37 years, the village has never looked as good… what you’re doing looks fantastic.”
Backing has also come from Newark and Sherwood District Council and Edwinstowe Parish Council, helping the project to grow and improve more areas of the village.
Organisers believe the benefits go beyond the competition itself. A cleaner, greener environment is helping to attract visitors, support local businesses and build a stronger sense of community.
East Midlands in Bloom judges inspected the In Bloomer’s efforts on Friday 3rd July, and the results are expected at the end of September. In 2025, Edwinstowe was the regional runner-up in the small-town category, winning a silver-gilt award.
“We’re proud of how far we’ve come,” said Jo Aylwin, Chair of the group. “We continue to work closely with local stakeholders to give Edwinstowe the best possible chance of improving its’ award status and we are excited to be welcoming RHS UK Finals judges on 31st July.”
Whatever the results, the Bloomers say the journey has already made a lasting difference—bringing people together and helping the village look its very best.
