Edwinstowe in Bloom

The Edwinstowe in Bloom (EiB) awards event, originally planned for Saturday 16th November, has been rescheduled to Saturday 18th January. It will take place at Edwinstowe Community Cricket Club, Forest Corner. Even if you are not currently a volunteer with EiB, you are warmly invited to join and learn about the group’s achievements in 2024 and plans for 2025. As capacity is limited, please confirm your attendance via the EiB Facebook page or by emailing eib@btinternet.com.

The group has recently acquired more tulip bulbs and received generous donations of plants, shrubs, and small trees. Volunteers have been hard at work planting these additions. The water bowser has been emptied into allotment water butts and stored for winter as the colder, wetter weather sets in. Volunteers also collaborated with Thoresby Vale residents to plant bulbs at the Country Park entrance, promising a colourful display in spring. Following a productive meeting with Josh from Harworth, EiB looks forward to continuing this partnership.

This year, EiB participated in the Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church, where tree spots were reserved early due to high demand. Each tree, standing no more than 5ft, featured a theme chosen by its group. The festival was open to the public from Thursday 28th November to Thursday 12th December.

The Edwinstowe entry, titled Lynda’s Legacy, paid tribute to Linda George, the founder of Edwinstowe in Bloom, who passed away on Sunday 14th April 2024. The tree showcased decorations made by Valerie and Heather using fabric donated by Linda, along with photographs featured in EiB’s 2025 calendar. Linda was also the inspiration behind the EiB Photography Competition.

The 2025 calendar went on sale in November outside the Co-op for £5.00. Each month highlights a winning photograph from the EiB Photography Competition, captured by local community members. A few calendars remain available, so please get in touch if you’d like to purchase one.

Winning photographs from the monthly competition (October 2024 to September 2025) will be included in the 2026 calendar. Submissions for the January competition are now open. Photos can depict anything of interest in the Edwinstowe area, including events, animals, landscapes, or anything reminiscent of Edwinstowe. Amateur photographers aged 16 and over are encouraged to participate. Entries should be sent in JPG format to eib@btinternet.com along with a title and the location where the photo was taken.

Edwinstowe in Bloom wishes everyone a very happy and prosperous New Year.
