As you have been going around the village you may have noticed the new boards that have been put in the flower beds and planters. These contain information on what Edwinstowe in Bloom (EiB) is doing or what is planted there.
These were installed in time for the East Midland in Bloom Judging on 3rd July and the judges were very impressed. Hopefully residents have also found these informative and interesting. The outcome of the East Midlands Britain in Bloom competition will be announced on 25th September.
Work continues on the allotments and the group has had some success from the vegetables planted earlier in the year, including potatoes, broad beans, and beetroot. The first delivery of produce has been made to the Food Hub! More is to come.
With the temperatures rising and the lack of rain, the bowser and water pump purchased with grant money last year are working a treat, and they are a blessing. A volunteer rota has been set up to make sure that the all the flower beds, planters, hanging baskets and areas of planting around the village are kept well-watered.
Members and volunteers enjoyed a get together with food and drink at the allotment in August. In September there are plans to hold another scarecrow competition, and EiB’s AGM is in the last week.
September will also launch the start of EiB’s new theme which will run through to September 2025. The theme will be ‘Mining’, as 2025 is the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Thoresby shaft and start of mining here. Ideas on how this theme could be used can be shared using the contact details below or at the AGM if you plan to attend.
In the EiB Photography Competition, the winning entry for June was a beautiful photograph of a Caucasian Poppy by Fran Hallam. This photograph, together with the other winning entries for previous months, will be included in the calendar for 2025, to be produced at the end of the year.
They are now looking for entries for September, so, if you are an amateur photographer and over 16, please consider taking part and send your entries of photographs taken in the Edwinstowe area in jpg format to the email address below. Terms and conditions can be found on their Facebook page.
