Edwinstowe in Bloom

Edwinstowe in Bloom (EiB) had some sad news this month when they learnt of the death of Linda George, who was the instigator and one of the founders of Edwinstowe in Bloom. Linda finally lost her battle with cancer. She will be sorely missed. EiB wants to make this year a special one in her memory.

The judges for the East Midlands in Bloom (EMIB) competition will be visiting Edwinstowe on 3rd July, so there is much to do in a short space of time to be ready. If you would like to join or have any ideas, please email eib@btinternet.com.

Work continues on the allotment with seed planting in the poly tunnel and sorting out the plants to go out into the vegetable and raised beds in the allotment. The planting area at Paddock Close has been expanded, with the new bed started off with donated plants. A large part will be seeded with flower seeds.

Down at the Beatie site, Izi has been planting the Wild Parsley plugs she grew over winter. The Yellow Rattle is beginning to flower; it is hoped that this will start to make inroads into the grasses, giving more areas for flowers to grow. Thanks go to Graham, who is a hero for clearing the thistles, and Jim for all his help strimming a new patch for covering over. Many hands really do make a difference.

Each year EMIB invites entries for the best front garden, the best hotel or pub and the best retail premises. EiB is looking for entries and nominations for this year’s competition and the judging will take place in the first two weeks of July. The winner of each category will be entered into the 2025 East Midland in Bloom Floral awards as representations for Edwinstowe. If you want to enter, email eib@btinternet.com.

This year EiB is looking to organise an Open Gardens weekend in Edwinstowe on 3rd / 4th August, and needs volunteers willing to open their garden to the public as part of the fun-filled weekend. No matter how big or small, if you love your garden then why not share it with fellow gardening enthusiasts?

If you are interested in taking part, contact Carol Hallam at challam25@gmail.com or message the Edwinstowe in Bloom Facebook page for more information and with any queries. Provide a short description of your garden, location, and a photo if possible. The deadline for entries is 22nd June.

In the EiB Photography Competition, the winning entry for March was the beautiful photograph of the Snake Head Fritillary by Carol Hallam.

The judges are now looking for entries for May, so if you are an amateur photographer and over 16, please consider taking part and send your entries in jpg format to the email address below. Terms and conditions can be found on the EiB Facebook page.
