Edwinstowe in Bloom

The work to get all flower beds ready for winter and planting bulbs for the spring continues for the Edwinstowe in Bloom (EiB) teams. More bulbs have been ordered – grape hyacinth, crocus, snow drops, narcissus and tulips. The teams have been planting these bulbs around the village in the beds and along the verges.

EiB decided once again to enter the Edwinstowe Christmas tree competition in St Mary’s Church. A number of volunteers worked on creating decorations for the tree and some held a workshop to create pinecone and paper decorations based on this year’s garden theme.

Five of the volunteers collected together on Wednesday 22nd November to decorate the EiB Tree along with all the other entry groups. The final stage was the addition by one of the volunteers of a lots of crocheted flowers, butterflies and a little robin she had made.

The winning entry was the 2nd Edwinstowe Rainbows and Brownies with ‘Robins appear when loved ones are near’. Whilst EiB didn’t win members had great fun taking part and were very proud of their entry.

The chairman did a wonderful job setting up and running the EiB stall at the Edwinstowe Christmas lights switch on event, which was held on the Thursday 23rd November. The group had plants for sale that had been donated by volunteers, and were also selling the 2024 calendar created using the monthly winning photographs from the 2023 photography competition. Costing £5.00, some copies of the calendar are still available. If you are interested, please email eib@btinternet.com.

EiB also produced a second calendar, created using photographs from the scarecrow competition. These were not offered for sale but were presented on the awards night to everyone who entered a scarecrow in the competition.

The EiB 2024 photography competition to create a calendar for 2025 started in October. If you are an amateur photographer and over 16, please consider taking part and send January entries in jpg format to the email address below. The terms and conditions can be found on the group’s Facebook page.
