Edwinstowe Historical Society participated in St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival, selecting the theme ‘EHS Revisits the Past’. The display featured copies of the monthly adverts for talks held during the past year.
Thanks to a series of engaging speakers, members explored topics such as the Pilgrim Fathers and the Wampanoag Nation, were captivated by the story of the Titanic stewardess who survived the ship’s sinking and delved into the details of three sieges at Newark during the Civil War. They also virtually visited Worksop Manor, Newstead Abbey (formerly Priory), and Edwinstowe Hall; learned about the women who shaped Nottingham’s history; and journeyed along the River Maun.
The coming year promises to be just as fascinating and entertaining. The first talk for 2025 will be presented on Wednesday 19th February by Adrian Gray, entitled ‘Worksop, Witches and an American Legacy: The Life of Richard Bernard’.
Meetings are held in the Church Rooms, Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe NG21 9NJ, on the third Wednesday of the month, starting at 2.00pm and lasting approximately two hours. Tea, coffee, and biscuits are available. The annual membership subscription is £15.00, and guests are warmly welcomed for a fee of £3.00.
