Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions Club is known throughout the villages of Ollerton, Bilsthorpe, Edwinstowe, Wellow and the region for raising money and using it to support worthy causes. Local people love the fact that the money is distributed back to the community.
Most of the money collected is shared to these areas but, now and again, the Lions support the bigger charities, such as Macmillan, Marie Curie, John Eastwood, Rainbows Children’s Hospice and Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
At their August meeting the Lions were delighted to support another organisation – Footprints. This charity supports and transforms the lives of children with severe mobility and communication difficulties. They help children to develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their full potential.
The Lions have seen the results achieved by this great charity; they urge you, if you only do one thing after reading this article, to check them out at www.footprintscec.org.
At the recent club meeting the Lions presented Footprints with a cheque and listened to them give a short overview. It was an emotional experience.
At the Lions, members try to entwine fun with fundraising activities. They will always welcome new members to the club, so get in touch to see how you can transform not only your own life, but the lives of others.
On the subject of fun, the Lions’ next monthly social is at The Lincoln Green Brewery – so the next article may be a touch wobbly but will hopefully relate how they fare!
The Lions’ annual Charter Dinner is coming up in October. Members dress up for a meal and a bit of dancing – so now is a very good time to consider joining.
