Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions

by | 2 July 2024 | Lions, Sherwood

Who said it would rain? Even with excellent BBC weatherman Rob Rose on the mic at Wellow Maypole Day, the weather was forecast to be showery. Obviously Rob worked his magic and the weather held up all day, which was a real blessing for the hard-working Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions Club.

As a group, Lions enjoy helping people and other charities. In this case they helped run the Maypole committee’s Raffle and also assisted on the Swing Boats.

The group also had its own flag-waving stall, handed out ‘Message in a Bottles’ and also a few little games to raise funds.

Members enjoy this annual event as a chance to get together and work hard but have fun among themselves. It was especially good to see some newer members getting involved and having a good time!

Is this something that appeals to you? There are lots of events and socials coming up throughout the year, ending with the Lions’ famed Santa Sleigh Run in December.

Just about every penny they raise is donated to worthwhile causes, all helping to make a difference to people’s lives. For more information, call, text or email Jon Yarwood on 07581 265531 or jon.c.yarwood@gmail.com.

Members are always pleased to chat and explain what Lions do. All are welcome – singles, couples, young and old. Maybe come to a meeting and meet the group; they meet in South Forest Leisure, at Edwinstowe and in a room very close to the bar (obviously!). It is worth a try out, isn’t it?
