Edwinstowe and Dukeries Lions

The Edwinstowe and Dukeries Lions Club recently sponsored a hole, and more, at a golf day in aid of Rainbows Hospice for Children. The event was a great success and is typical of the charitable work undertaken by the club.

There are several more planned events, both for fundraising and the club’s regular social gatherings.

Last month, members visited the Lincoln Green Brewery in Hucknall for a brewery tour. Drinks were enjoyed responsibly, and the group was treated to a meal and a presentation by the brewery’s owner, Anthony Hughes. Anthony shared an inspiring story about the origins of the brewery, and his passion for the business was evident. He certainly gained some new supporters by the end of the evening.

The club’s September social was a particularly special one, and more details will be shared in the next issue. Members are heading to Whitby in remembrance of a long-time friend and former club member. His wife, who remains an active and important member of the Lions, often holidayed in Whitby with her late husband. The club plans to stay over and make a weekend of the trip in their honour.

October will see the club celebrate its 45th Birthday Charter Dinner Dance, which will feature food, drinks, and perhaps even some dancing.

Following that, the club will begin preparations for its busiest time of the year – the annual Santa Sleigh Run. The Lions will be visiting Bilsthorpe, Ollerton, Edwinstowe, and several other local areas, and help will be needed to ensure the success of the event.

The club encourages anyone interested in helping others to consider joining them, as it offers a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community.

Finally, if any businesses are interested in providing financial support, the club is always open to assistance. Businesses can get in touch, and a member of the Lions will be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss how they can become involved. Email jon.c.yarwood@gmail.com.
