Dukeries u3a

What a challenging year it has been! Dukeries u3a members have continued to meet online for their programme of professional speakers, as well as for social events two or three times a week. Tony, the photography group leader, held tutorials via Zoom while members Sharon and Patti started a twice monthly online club, ‘All Sorts’, for informal discussions. The watercolour group also was able to continue to meet via Zoom. More ways of keeping in touch were by members contributing to and receiving their newsletter ‘Staying Connected’ and with their Facebook group.
The Dukeries u3a AGM was held online in May with guests Steve Little, Scheme Manager of Miner2Major Landscape Partnership, and Andrew Oxnard, Newark and Sherwood Community Engagement and Development Coordinator, who, prior to AGM business, gave an insight into their work in the community.
In June, members are looking forward to hearing Graham Keal speaking about ‘Terry Wogan’s Hairweave and Other Stories’ while in July, Autumn Rose from Via East Midlands will be giving a talk specifically tailored for u3a members with ‘Drive On’.
Whenever lockdown restrictions eased over the last year the Whatsapp Walking Group met according to social distancing rules to appreciate short walks in Sherwood Forest and the local area. When they were allowed, Christine’s outside coffee mornings provided a welcome way of seeing friends again. Members are hoping they will all be able to meet outside in person for their annual garden party in August.
They are looking forward to when they can fully take part again and are planning a Dukeries u3a Day, to be held on 11th September 2021 at Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton, when existing and prospective members can see what they offer. Plans are also being made to have a stall showcasing their activities in Ollerton and Edwinstowe shopping areas during the summer.
