Dukeries u3a

by | 28 February 2025 | Education and Learning, Hobbies, Sherwood, Social Group

With spring on its way and the urge to shake off the winter comfort blankets, Dukeries u3a is introducing new activities for the season.
Can a hidden Maradona be teased out? Walking Football is now available for both ladies and gents to try. As the name suggests, this is a gentle form of exercise – no running is allowed, it is non-contact, and the focus is on fun. Anyone interested in joining the group can contact the organiser, Nick Ryan, at ryan4bt@hotmail.com.

Another new group, ‘Speak & Shine’, aims to boost confidence in speaking in front of others, whether sharing a story, presenting an idea, telling a joke, contributing to a debate, or making a speech at a family event. Those who would like to feel more comfortable with public speaking can contact Group Leader Lynette Culleton at lynetteculleton@yahoo.co.uk. Everyone’s voice deserves to be heard!

Group of the month

This month’s featured group is the newly-formed Play Reading Group, which meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Ambleside Centre in New Ollerton. There is no physical acting involved – just lively readings of plays, with plenty of laughter along the way. Recently, the group enjoyed Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party and will soon be bringing The Wind in the Willows to life. The Group Leader, James Bartlett, can be contacted at jamesdu3agroup@gmail.com.

Join Dukeries u3a

The u3a movement is a great way to meet new people, socialise, and learn something new. Dukeries u3a is open to all adults, regardless of employment status. Membership costs £12.00 per person until Monday 31st March and includes access to all activities and interest groups. Prospective members are welcome to attend up to two meetings, held on the third Monday of each month from 12.30pm to 3.00pm, for a £1.00 fee to cover refreshments. Full annual membership is £20.00 and grants access to all Dukeries u3a activities, as well as group activities within the North Notts Neighbourhood Group.

Go and see for yourself what Dukeries u3a is all about at their Open Day on Saturday 15th March at their ‘home’, the Jubilee Hall in Ollerton? Find out what is on offer and talk to Activity Group Leaders with absolutely no obligation. In addition, there will be a Ukelele and Banjolele concert by local musicians in the afternoon.

Doors open between 10.00am and 1.00pm, and then from 2.00pm. The concert will begin at 2.30pm and entry is free.
