The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance has, for many years, been Dukeries u3a’s elected charity. Based in Lincoln, the Air Ambulance has flown over 30,000 missions covering 3,500 square miles, frequently accessing rural areas where traditional road ambulances may find it difficult and time-consuming to reach.
One member recalled a personal experience with the Air Ambulance at Rufford Park Golf Club. During a lunchtime function, their sister-in-law fell ill, and the Air Ambulance was summoned, landing on the 9th Green. Concerned that the green would be damaged and golfers angered, they were reassured by the crew’s professionalism and skill—no marks were left, and the ambulance, with the patient on board, quickly departed for Lincoln Hospital, allowing golf to continue without disruption.
Dukeries u3a is proud to announce that it has now raised the magnificent sum of £8,000 on behalf of the Air Ambulance, largely thanks to the dedication and fundraising expertise of member Pam Hardwick, who really has wholeheartedly championed the cause.
Despite recent variable weather, Dukeries u3a’s Ramblers and Walkers have embraced winter walks. The Ramblers completed an eight-mile round trip from the Limes Café into Sherwood Pines, returning via the old railway line. The ‘Group of the Month’ is the WhatsApp Walkers, who meet every fortnight on a Thursday at 10.30am and enjoy gentle, three-to-four-mile walks in good company! The u3a movement provides an excellent opportunity to make friends, socialise or learn something new. There are a lot of good things happening at Dukeries u3a, which is open to all adults regardless of employment status. Membership now costs £12.00 per person up to 31st March 2025 and includes access to all activities and interest groups.
